Black Stone Cherry - Newcastle Academy : Black Stone Cherry are a fabulous Rock Band from Kentucky. They played a great show at Newcastle's Carling Academy on 6th December 2008. I was fortunate enough to get a photo pass so was front of house for the first 3 songs. My first photographs of a full on rock band. All taken with my 85mm 1.8 lens. There was no time to change to anything else!! 3 songs go by in around 15 minutes!!

Drive By Truckers - Manchester Academy 8 Aug 2008 : The Drive By Truckers are an American rock band from the South of that country. I took the chance of emailing them to see if I could have a photo pass from them. To my suprise and their credit they arranged a one for me. I was able to take pictures during the first 3 songs from inside the barrier and then for the rest of the concert from the front of the room.

So these are a selection from the 3 memory cards full I took!! I wasn't allowed to use flash and there wasn't a lot of stage lighting - so I needed a high ISO which gives some noise and as the band move a lot they are not all as sharp as I would like!!

Stewboss And Dead Rock West : Dead Rock West are an off shoot of Elements of Stewboss, but with their own distinctive style. Main members are Frank Lee Drennen and Cindy Wasserman supported by Greg Sawtry (from Stewboss) and a tight drummer and bass player (who's names escape me - sorry guys!). These pictures were taken at the Buddle Arts Centre in Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne, England on 2 Feb 2008. The guys interchanged members and numbers throughout the night, playing Stewboss old favourites along with Greg's new songs and a great set from Dead Rock West who tore the house down. If you get the chance - catch this band folks.

Jason Isbell + 400 Unit - The Cluny, Newcastle Upon Tyne : Jason Isbell has left The Drive By Truckers, where he wrote some mean songs and played meaner guitar, to go solo. Guess what? With his new tight band 400 Unit he still writes mean songs and plays some pretty damm good guitar. He played a fabulous gig at The Cluny on 4th April 2008. If you get a chance to catch them do so. If you can't see them live I would check out his new album "Sirens of The Ditch".

The Dirty South @ Nikhs Bar, Blyth -May 08 : The Dirty South are a local North East Band who get down 'n dirty playing their unique take on songs by Lynrd Skynrd, Molly Hatchett, 38 Special and other great Southern Rock songs. These pictures caught the band whooping it up at a great music venue - Nikhs Bar in the coastal delta town called Blyth!

His pictures will appear elsewhere but these are some shots I took of the other acts on the evening. They are free to download them and use if they want. All I ask is a credit and some money when they hit the bigtime!!! As always all photo rights reserved

White Lies : A new band who are just starting out. I caught them headlining a show at The Cluny in Newcastle. The place was that packed that I couldn't get into a position to take any photographs. I managed to run off about 15 shots during the last song. These shots were distilled from the ones I took. The light show added to the atmosphere.

The Wholigans : Some photographs I took of a great Who tribute band when they supported Diablo (okay..only kidding guys!!) when they headlined the Carling Academy, Newcastle in November 2008, with Diablo supporting.

As they say on their website..
The Wholigans: The Ultimate and Original Tribute to the WHO have been entertaining Who fans since 1982. Originally formed in Toronto Canada by Barry Quinn ( aka Roger Daltrey ) who had emigrated from Newcastle, England.

The Wholigans toured Canada and the USA from 1982-1992 and were among the pre-eminent tribute bands in the music scene. Barry then moved to Florida before resurrecting the band in late '99-2000. Since then it seems fans still have a hunger for the music of The Who, and The Wholigans are now more popular than ever, playing Who conventions in Germany , NYC and England.

The band has played festivals in the USA for between 100,000 and 400,000 people , and also played at a Who show at the Ice Palace in Tampa in 2000 before 12,000 Who fans ,who applauded the band with every chord struck, which could have quite easily gone the other way.

The Wholigans have also played 3 WHO conventions since 2003, two of those in London England, and one in Germany .
